San Jose

No, San Jose is not an exciting or inspiring place. Talk to anyone that has ever visited Costa Rica or to any Ticos for that matter, and they will tell you to forget San Jose and head outside of the city where the true majesty of the country lies. A lot of people live in and around SJ, but it's not like Austin where everyone here seems to really want to be here. Every time I visited, which was generally to swap out groups of kids, the weather was cloudy, like a permanent gloom had settled upon it.
I realize all these descriptors paint a pretty dire picture of the city, but it does have some redeeming qualities, which include the variety of places to eat and drink (I even found a delicious vegan restaurant!) and things to do that suit all types. Not to mention museums and a few pretty plazas and pretty displays of grafitti, of which you will find pictures of below.
